It’s not revealed whether or not she accepted, but it’s implied that the series is now going to send Paul to a big future. Professor Oak then explained to Ash that Paul came to visit him to learn more about Pokemon because he asked me to become a Gym leader. They test Ash not on their classic team, but with a team full of Pokemon that he’s likely to come in the rest of the tournament like Metagross, Garchomp and Gyarados. Paul will become a trainer of the Gym.Īs in Episode 114 of Pokemon Journeys, Ash reunited with Paul for the first time since the Diamond and Pearl anime, and Paul explains why he wasn’t in World Coronation Series (despite clearly having the skill for it) because he has a lack of fun. In conclusion, Avalugg is a very amazing, and honestly very underrated Pokémon that has won the position as my all-time favorite Ice type with little competition.Pokemon Journeys finally saw one of Ash Ketchum’s biggest rivals come back to anime after all these years, and the latest episode of the series airing in Japan revealed a major promotion Paul made since we had last seen him in action! I’m personally not a huge fan of the Ice type, but Avalugg, along with other Ice Pokémon such as Walrein, Weavile and Aurorous are sort of a breath of fresh air from the typical designs found in most Ice Pokémon. I personally have a particular soft spot for animal-like Pokemon, and Avalugg is no exception. His name is Luggz, and I still have him to this day in my Ultra Sun. I actually used an Avalugg in my first Pokemon Y playthrough. ![]() Despite having a poor speed stat, which I don’t typically appreciate in Pokémon in general, its bulk more than makes up for it. It’s got a very original design that hadn’t been done before, and gave me more of a reason to appreciate Generation 6 more than I would have. These Pokémon may share a similar diet to that of Piloswine, foraging for frozen berries and vegetation, or perhaps consume rock and ice in order to strengthen the outer layers of ice surrounding them, making their bodies sturdier.Īll in all, I really do love Avalugg. Since the Pokémon is so heavy, the spikes help Avalugg stabilize itself on slippery ice so it doesn’t fall over and get stuck on its back.Īvalugg have short canine teeth lining their jaw, but are likely herbivorous, since the majority of these teeth are very small, and likely serve the purpose of breaking through ice or defending themselves from a predator. The triangular, spiked claws lining Avalugg’s feet are very useful for traversing frozen environments, serving a similar function to ice cleats. Other than giving the Pokémon more of an edge in combat, this icy outer shell could very well have been developed in order to adapt to its local environment.Īvalugg and Bergmite share a local habitat with other Ice-type Pokémon such as Piloswine and Beartic, which are species known to be particularly reckless.Īs recorded in Piloswine’s Pokedex entry (Pokemon Y) “Because the long hair all over its body obscures its sight, it just keeps charging repeatedly”.ĭue to this, Avalugg may have needed to develop a thicker outer coat around their bodies to defend themselves from harm caused by rampant Piloswine that could easily mistake the Pokémon for a slab of ice with their impaired sight. When it evolves, Avalugg gains a heavy layer of solid ice coating its body with a thickness akin to that of steel.
